OK, what's the secret??

How the heck are you F.A.S.T. guys running the numbers you run on original rubber??

I picked up my 69 RR a few months ago and I've been slowly trying to get her back to looking as original as possible.

Before:

After

I recently picked up a set of G70-15's and have been slowly breaking in a new set of gears over the last few weeks, but today I was finally able to give her the beans and now I realize how slow she really is  embarrassed

On the Mickeys (29x12.5x15), she hooks up pretty good and goes like stink  Smiley

But on the G70's, as soon as I crack open the secondaries, they go up in smoke and it's a pedalfest no matter what gear I'm in undecided

Specs:

440 block (.030" over)
steel crank
6-Pack rods
Wiseco custom ultralite pistons
Ported 915 heads w/Ferrea stainless valves
Comp Cams 575/575 solid roller and lifters
Indy Rockers and shafts
Weiand Team G Hi-Rise intake
King Demon 1095 carb
MSD everything (Pro-Billet dizzy, 6AL box, 3-stage retarder, adjustable timing controller, Blaster coil, etc.)
Built TF727 w/reverse manual valve body
Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter
8-3/4 rear w/Power Lock and 3.90's

Even with all that, I doubt I'll be able to run factory times given what I've found today.

How do you guys do it??

On the street the redlines will have trouble hooking up. At the dragstrip you'll have to do a pretty good burnout to get them hot. Even at that you may have to ease into the throttle off the line to get the tires to hook.

Agreed.  You can have fun on the streets and take a different tact on the strip!!!

Best way to describe the throttle application is like having an egg under the pedal.  Squish it, but don't crush it.  Once you get rolling........

Here's a short video from earlier today

Don't plan on doing any burnouts with the Redlines (not with the price I paid for them lol)

I'll be switching back to the Mickeys when I wanna have fun

Paul Petcou has raced on these and it took 7 years for him to wear them out!  Thrash on them, we'll make more!

My buddy Mike has been racing his A12 Road Runner for quite a few years now on the Firestone redlines. Hundreds of passes later they still look good.
I've put thousands of street miles and over 100 dragstrip passes on my 340 Duster with the Polyglas GT's, they still look new.

Same for me over 500 passes and thousands of miles on the street still have about half the tread left.  They actually wear better than any tire Ive ever used.  You must come of the line not much higher than idle and ease into it, its actually kinda of boring rather than dumping the clutch at 4000 grand or doing a hard brake torque. Smokem if you gottem .. !
I have punished my polyglas beyond belief.
Unless i shaved them their not race ready ..
Burnouts in clorox ? Anything to

I believe Ed Cook told me to put them on
A construction trailer loaded with a backhoe
- that will soften up the sidewall and
Lose some tread . Smiley

I am no seasoned pro - but it takes a lotta practice
And minimum tread to hook ...

Im sure my pic is sideways ...
Stupid i phone ....
These are shaved...
