The 5th digit of the VIN is the engine code. In 1970, "U" was the code assigned to a 440 4bbl HP engine which was standard in the GTX, Superbird & R/T. It was not availiable as an option in 1970 Road Runners. Until this car surfaced there was only one "U" code 70 RR on record and it was a hardtop.

What did the engine callout on the back of the hood bulge read on this car?  Just curious if it was also 440 in keeping with the U Code...

That portion of the hood was missing and the rear hood frame had be cut for some unknown reason. Had the frame not been cut it would have been a near perfect hood.
