What are the last characters "C" and "D" in the part number for? Do they represent the setting and would any other application (i.e., '69 440 GTX/'69 440 R/T) use that part number/setting?

The characters "IBS4014C" is the Prestolite (the manufacturer of the distributor) part number. So I'm going to guess that "C" & "D" was the way for Prestolite to distinguish between the man. & auto distributor for a different setting.

Does  $545.00 sound reasonable for the correct distributor with the vac advance? It has to be rebuilt and does not come with the cap.

$250-$300 would be more reasonable. Did you check Tony D'Agostino's website? He had one or two fir sale at one time. They were not near that much as far as I remember?

If you buy one that is restored,be very careful. There are reproduction tags out there that are very hard to distinguish from an original. It is easy to put a tag on a dual point and inflate the price for a particular application, even though they are are all the same other than the mechanical and vacuum advance rating.

An original should look like this,if any discrepancies, stay away.

Thanks for the heads up. These distributors do not come up for sale to often so even though the price is high and then I will have to spend about $300 more to restore and set it up, I think I should purchase it. Any thoughts, am I not being patient enough?

What's the biggest difference between an A12 and a '69 GTX-R/T, etc.,..................that couldn't be done with a reproduction tag undecided undecided Are the prices the same for say a '69 GTX Roll Eyes

No, only certain hemi and 6bbl applications are worth the stupid money.  The 4bbl dp are usually the cheapest.  Bill makes a good point about the tags, however, they are pretty obvious when compared to an OEM tag or a trained eye.  From what I have seen in my time, the '69 6-pack 4-spd and '70 6-pack 4-spd distributor are the hardest to find and tend to be expensive.  The $400-500 range seems to be where the core prices are...
