Off Season Resto Items - Recs?
10/18/10 at 12:38:49

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to outsource a couple items this winter. I want to send out my gauge cluster and have someone redo my tail panel and possibly the tail light housings. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Mike

Autoinstruments did my gauges, very nice work, and quick. Cheaper than most but still pricey. What isn't these days though.

Mike Mancini at Instrument Specialties. The only guy I know doing brightwork and panel refinishing is Special T Bill, but he's high....

Whoever rebuilds your clock keep in mind there are movements now which have second 'click' hands as opposed to unoriginal sweep.

Tail Panel...Mark Shank at Classic Metal Finishing is super busy. Very fair in cost with excellent work.

Thanks guys.

So far I talked to both Special T and Mark. Leaning towards Mark, he can start in January, sounds like it could take up to a few months for the tail panel. Does that sound about right?

Always take projected schedules with a pound of salt. Metal finishing is one piece at a time. These guys are good but can only do one part at a time. Then they wait to send out collected batches for brite work (annodizing). Shipping back and forth and then there might be a spot in the brite work and it has to be redone. Everything works against deadlines in metal finishing so don't talk yourself into a hard date (ask me how I know). It would be wise to double the time suggested to be safe. It'll be worth the wait.
