Urban legend A12s

We all love an urban legend, especially when it is a lift-off car.  To be honest, everyone in my neck of the woods that I ever heard of, I've chased down and eventually found.  So what have you heard stories of?  What rare ones are still missing that we are hoping to find.  I'm sure Dave Watt has heard some stories of desireable m-codes that are yet to surface like the mod top car and the ronnie sox test chicken.  What else have you "heard" of waiting to be discovered.  The 8,000 mile orange bee that I posted pics of was one.  There is a butterscotch chicken practically in my backyard that hasn't seen the light of day since the 80s, and the owner is a member on this board.  I wonder if he'll ever do a thing with it.  There are a couple more guys on here that have some incredible stories.  One guy has been searching for his chicken he bought new for forever.  The current owner has a blown hemi in it, and sold the original motor to him recently for some extra cash.  Maybe one day he'll land the car.  Those are just a few.  I'll post more as you guys add your stories.  By the way, everyone I post is 100% true and I have seen the cars with my own eyes.

I've heard of him.  While you may be "cool", I've heard he is the king (or maybe that was court jester).

Not a Lift Off Hood car but there was a GY9 1971 Hemicuda that was somewhat an "Urban Legend" as I often heard people mention it with a slightly different description, but it was always a GY9 Hemicuda, but I never seen it even though it was a local car and I was never introduced to its owner.
Sadly for me the details only came out after the owner Nick had passed away and I never got a chance to meet the man.
Anyway I have a tribute page on my other website for the man and his car:

Great topic Gary.
I was tracking a Road Runner that I felt was the Sox test car, the trail went cold in Michigan. Anyone out there with an R4 4-speed coupe Road Runner with a VERY early VIN#?

the story is back in 1969, there was a train loaded with cars destined for delivery to all the local dealers near buffalo NY.  the train derailed, near attica NY.  how the story goes is that all the cars were declared a total loss.  to make the clean up easier, there was an agreement made with the farmer whose property was adjacent with the railroad.  they dug a hole with heavy equipment and pushed them in!!  there was some talk of cars with hemis and also strange cars with large wing on the back!!  this all sounded very unreal, but about 4 years ago it was confirmed by an individual at carlisle when he told the same story about a superbee that he had ordered and was contacted by the dealership that there was going to be a delay on getting the car because of the accident with the train.  f6bee (rick) can confirm this story and with better detail.

I just talked to the guy this w/e with the 'bee that this happened to.  He did mentioned that he had to wait a couple of months for the new bee after the train wreck but he didn't know what happened to any other cars or what cars were on it along with his.  I heard there was a 69 hemi RR that was rolled in a train wreck that wound up in a High School auto shop for repair/practice....,

The only other legends was a sixpack bird that Pete Rose supposedly owned that was still in the Ohio area - I chased that down for a couple of months but no luck.

The other was a 69 'bee A12 that was out of Kentucky that had 4:56 gears installed from the dealer when new. I have a polariod of it, I talked to the owner's father and he wanted 10k for it... it had to be around -1995?...I wonder where that car is now..it needed restore but for 10k running..not bad..

Thats all I have...

Man that is quite a story. I can only imagine with a couple Canadian beers in ole Ricky that would make for a great afterschool movie Grin

We should open up an Investigative Report.
Lets see if they were B-Bodies meant for the Buffalo market they would have probably been assembled at Lynch Rd.
I wonder what route they would have taken to Buffalo?
North or South of Lake Erie?
Is there any old newspaper articles about a train derailment ?
I wonder if Eye Witness News Channel 7 and Irv W were there? BTW where the heck is Irv!
Lets put our heads together...I have a shovel and a strong back Wink

Now we are on to something....keep the ideas flowing. While we are doing this all this research maybe someone will uncover Buffalo's last Championship team, when did they last win the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, World Series etc Cool Grin
Is there a Mixed Bowling Trophy with their name on it?
Man even the trains were falling off the tracks to avoid the place....

Man, You get plain mean in the winter!!  First you change my name color (colour) and now you are pounding poor Rick.  It's not his fault he was born in a town with a poor sports gene pool.  Some kids are just made to swallow the marbles you know.  Wink

I'm checking the railfan sites to see if someone might have pics or more details of that train wreck.

I've found a guy who remembers the derailment and says he still has a newspaper clipping about it..... He's looking for it. Somewhere near what is called the Portage "high bridge".

a quote........Denton Corners Road, about 2 miles west of Portage Bridge. Eastbound freight hit a highway paver at the crossing. A retired EL Buffalo Division engineman told me that the crew had to be dug out of gravel that had filled the cab. I have a newspaper clipping with an aerial photo showing the cars including autoracks like jackstraws. I have kept that clipping since 1969. It's here somewhere
